Tacoma Art Place is 100% volunteer-supported. If you enjoy volunteering and love art, introduce yourself and get involved. This center is modeled after a co-op that a group of Tacoma area community leaders visited in Mali, West Africa. Honestly it’s one thing going to Africa to study an arts co-op’s contributions to poverty reduction, community-building, and economic vitality. It’s another undertaking altogether to start a non-profit art center from the ground up in Tacoma. To help Tacoma Art Place fulfill its potential, we need your help.
Who we need to volunteer:
- Helpful people to work member reception, like a docent.
- Art teachers, all genres. See our Teach page for more information.
- We also could use help on committees with things like marketing and on special projects.
Also, we are looking to fill the following long-term administrative volunteer positions (email volunteer@tacomaartplace.org if you’re interested):

Membership Coordinator
- Process membership applications that need extra attention (have questions, etc.)
- Keep track of membership records by sign-up date
- Make basic membership information available to shift volunteers (keep the rest secure)
- Send membership cards when needed (if the Shift Volunteers haven’t done this)
- Monitor and/or process requested sponsored membership requests
- Process memberships donated to other organizations’ auctions, won by raffle, etc.
- Organize/oversee calls to members nearing expiration for renewal
- Respond to inquiries to the membership@tacomaartplace.org email address.
- Report to TAP Board Liaison monthly on the number of paid and sponsored memberships and renewals.

Shift Volunteer
- Open/close TAP (as needed for either shift, or both for Sunday)
- Oversee the activities to ensure people are following the TAP Facility Rules
- Check the phone voicemail and the rsvp@tacomaartplace.org email
- Answer questions by phone and from walk-in visitors
- Make reminder calls for classes
- Take payments as needed for memberships, classes, and donations
- Get signatures from instructors for class totals (and sign yourself)
- Give out/retrieve class survey forms
- Make note of needed supplies as they run low
- Be familiar with all of the procedures in the Volunteer Manual
